About Rick Laughlin

Rick Laughlin, APLD, is the principle and owner of Laughlin Design Associates, Inc., a landscape design firm catering to residential and commercial clients in Salt Lake City. He grew up in Virginia in a family deeply involved in the art of landscaping where he was exposed to gardening on an extremely high, artistic level. Throughout careers in nature, business and the arts he developed sensitivity to his work that continues today. Inspired at an early age by a landscape intensive family and frequent experiences with nature, he continues to seek new inspiration through continuing education, voracious reading and travels to many gardens in the United States and abroad. Rick is a member of the Garden Writers Association, Society of Garden Designers, UK, and is a Certified member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers serving on several international committees. He helps promote the art of landscape design teaching classes at Jordan Valley Water Conservancy Garden and through educating his clients. Laughlin received a degree in Wildlife Management from Virginia Tech where he received a strong college background in wildlife and horticulture. Rick has been an avid gardener for 40 years and a professional landscape designer for 19 years. Presently, Rick is the only Certified Professional Landscape Designer in practicing in Utah.

LDA has designed and installed projects in Park City, North Carolina, Idaho and Utah. Notable projects/clients include Utah Transit Authority Frontline Headquarters and TRAX stations, Ruby Tuesdays, Park City, Parkview Plaza, Sugarhouse, Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, and numerous residences in Salt Lake City and outlying areas. He is experienced with a wide range of garden styles to suit your needs.
